The Golden Ticket
The year started with an exciting opportunity: I received a Golden Ticket and was invited to meet Amazon about their Merch By Amazon (MBA) program. We signed NDAs, but I can share that it made me proud and excited about this passive income chance. They even designed a shirt for us! The team treated us well, and we offered feedback on the MBA’s strengths and weaknesses. Despite initial frustrations, I realized how dedicated the Merch team is to improving their program.
A Detour with Merch By Amazon
Merch significantly altered my business trajectory in late 2016. It opened up a new income stream as I sold nearly 10,000 shirts on Amazon—an unexpected success. This detour prevented me from making a significant mistake; I was about to launch a site focusing on selling online courses from WordPress, which I wasn’t passionate about. Thanks to Amazon, I avoided that potential failure!
The PSP Journey Begins
When I launched Passive Shirt Profits (PSP) in June 2017, I knew social media wouldn’t be a core part of my marketing strategy. While it might seem odd today, I’ve never been strong at marketing or social media. My goal was podcasting, challenging the "be everywhere" rule many newcomers follow. I wanted to see if podcasting could drive traffic to my courses.
Sales Were Off to a Great Start!
The PSP initial launch was successful. Offering a bundle package at a lower price than individual courses led to most customers buying the bundle. In the first three days, I made more than I typically did on Udemy in a month (without discounts).
